HONVED JAEGERS ON THE WAY

Honved Jaeger from Ralph Weaver's Hungarian Army 1848-49
I've been knocked-down with a nasty chest cold that has stopped hobby productivity for over a week. However, there is still some news to share. The greens of the first figures that I commissioned with Steve Barber Models have been completed! These are Hungarian Jaegers in two poses: loading and firing.  As usual, clix pix for BIG PIX.
One thing I sometimes find frustrating is the way that many uniform details (sometimes nearly all!) are lost under piles of equipment. Given that I could have these my way, I wanted a sculpt that would allow the uniform details to come through...

...who wouldn't want to showcase such jaunty uniform details? So these jaegers are stripped down for skirmish action, with backpacks and greatcoats left with the company wagons. Watch for them to come out in the next few months.

  1. Good looking greens. Those will look great when you get some paint on the final fellows.

  2. I agree with Charles. Very good looking greens.
I wish more manufacturers would provide soldiers in light equipment. Besides seeing the actual uniform, I find lightly equipped figures faster to paint.

    1. I heartily agree on all counts. The lesson that less is more seems to be lost. I find that Perry Figures, in particular, can be equipment-intensive to the point of exhaustion.

  3. Firstly, sorry to read about you chest cold. I hope you recover as soon as possible.

Excellent greens Ed. The miniatures look great. Nice work from Steve.

Look forward in seeing the further additions to the range.

    Cheers,

    GH

    1. Thanks, GH--finally coming out of it (I think). We'll have a good range of Hungarians by the time we're done!

    1. Thanks, Ray. Those who can't commission those who can :)

  5. In sympathy with you over your chest cold, I've had mine for some weeks now, lots of folks have it. It seems to be particularly nasty this year.
Now onto the fun stuff! Excellent greens indeed! Gotta have some Jagers in your army alright.
I think a lot of wargamers would rather have the sculptors forego all that extra equipment and have them ready for battle. I'm sure they dropped the backpacks etc going into the fray.

    1. The really vexing thing is that I had made it through a particularly nasty cold and flu season without getting sick (or so I had thought) only to have the winter extend into spring just long enough for me to come down with this. Blah.

    1. Same here. I think the distinctive "bowler" hat came through nicely and will set these fellows apart on particular.

    2. And the faces are even better than the hats! Great moustaches!

    1. Hi Cash Strapped,

If you go to the Chocolate Box Wars Post at the below URL, you can download everything I have on the system right now (it includes mounting conventions). And if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll see some references to an interim variant of Volley and Bayonet that I've come up with to use the same figures (so in the meantime, the figures can get some use). Hope this answers your questions:
